Rock crystal, a type of hyaline quartz, is a mineral belonging to the silicate group. Its composition includes silicon dioxide and oxygen, and it has a rhombohedral type crystal structure. This mineral may have inclusions, such as minerals like feldspar or calcite, as well as elements such as tourmaline, rutile, hematite or hematoid.

Rock crystal forms in the cracks and crevices of rocks rich in silica, which gives it its name. It is also found in granite, granitic rocks, and some metamorphic sedimentary rocks, often occurring as large, colorless crystals. However, it can also be colored or have a smoky tint.

This mineral has a rich history: the Romans used it to make jewelry such as bracelets and necklaces, while the Egyptians decorated ewers with raised spirals. During the Renaissance, the workshops of Florence and Milan also used it in their creations.

Nowadays, rock crystal is widely used in lithotherapy because of its energy-receiving, emitting and amplifying properties. It is also used to recharge other minerals, thus reinforcing their beneficial effects.
